2018 Super Duty®
DURABILITY YOU NEED TODAY — AND OVER THE LONG HAUL.
Today’s generation of the Ford Super Duty® is the toughest, most capable heavy-duty pickup we’ve ever built. Body weight was slashed by going with high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy. Some of that weight savings was then reinvested where it really counts in a work truck — stronger axles, beefier steering and chassis components, and an all-new fully boxed frame built of over 95 percent high-strength steel. The result is a pickup that’s stronger yet lighter, delivering class-leading payload and towing.
HIGH-STRENGTH, MILITARY-GRADE, ALUMINUM-ALLOY BODY
The Super Duty® has the only high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body in its class. Aluminum alloy is substantially lighter than the previous body, yet it’s remarkably strong. It’s also more dent-and-ding resistant and not subject to red rust corrosion. Use of aluminum alloy allowed some of the weight savings to be reinvested where it matters the most, especially in the frame that’s the foundation of strength and toughness.
FULLY BOXED HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL FRAME
The fully boxed frame is built of over 95 percent high-strength steel with up to 10 crossmembers. It’s 24 times stiffer than the previous frame. The frame is designed to minimize flexing and twisting while maximizing strength and torsional rigidity — and helps Super Duty® achieve the highest payload and tow ratings in its class.
Like the fully boxed high-strength steel frame, the axles are stronger in today’s generation of the Ford Super Duty® pickup. That means greater weight-bearing capability so you can get more done, whether you’re operating an upfit like a snowplow, or hauling big payloads that concentrate more weight on the rear axle. The axles are also designed to handle the best-in-class 450 horsepower and 935 lb.-ft. of torque of the available 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel.
RESPONSIVE RIDE, HANDLING AND STEERING
Today’s Ford Super Duty® is engineered with stronger-than-ever frame and axles for superior load-carrying capability. The suspension and steering components are also stronger to deliver the responsiveness and control you need while hauling or towing huge loads on the road or at the job site. And the springs are specifically designed to work with the new frame and take advantage of the lighter aluminum-alloy body.
AdvanceTrac® WITH RSC® AND TRAILER SWAY CONTROL
Super Duty® comes with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™™ (RSC® ) and Trailer Sway Control on both single- and dual-rear-wheel models. Both systems use gyroscopic sensors and apply a combination of reduced engine power and selective wheel braking to help maintain the stability of the vehicle and the trailer in tow.
LARGEST BRAKES IN CLASS (F-450)
The components of the four-wheel anti-lock brakes in the F-450 model are the largest in their class — and for two important reasons. You want them to provide the sure stopping power you expect when you’re out on the job hauling tons of whatever it is that’s riding along with you behind the cab. And you want them to last, because having to replace brakes too often can be a real drag on your bottom line.
OVER 12 MILLION MILES OF TESTING
We committed this latest generation of the Super Duty® to over 12 million miles of testing, under real and simulated conditions. We also put prototype models in the hands of people like you, working in some of the most demanding industries. Our goal: Build a line of Class 3-5 trucks with extraordinary performance and capability.
ENGINEERING FOR THE EXTREMES
We evaluated the Super Duty® on computers and dynamometers in the lab, then tested it at the proving grounds and on public roads and highways at temperatures from -20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. We conducted thermal shocks that swung ambient temperature 250 degrees Fahrenheit in under two minutes, as well as powertrain tests that replicated going up a six-degree grade over 500 miles. We subjected Super Duty® to four-post frame twists, gravel, dust, water, salt brine, mud baths and even intentionally tested with worn or broken parts. We’re talking here about extreme conditions that often went far beyond what you would likely encounter on your toughest of jobs.
MOST CAPABLE FULL-SIZE PICKUP IN AMERICA
The heavy-duty pickup with the capability you’ll want on your work crew is the Ford Super Duty® . Check out these Super Duty® specs: best-in-class 7,630-lb. maximum payload and 21,000-lb. conventional tow ratings — plus a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 42,800 lbs. that’s also best-in-class. Super Duty® delivers exceptional capability as well when it comes down to towing the really big loads, with either its maximum 27,500-lb. 5th-wheel or best-in-class 34,000-lb. gooseneck tow rating.* What’s more, Super Duty® offers technology like class-exclusive Trailer Reverse Guidance that helps make maneuvering big trailers a difficult task of the past.
BEST-IN-CLASS CONVENTIONAL TOWING
The all-new Super Duty® has a maximum conventional towing capacity of 21,000 pounds — greater than ever before and higher than any other heavy-duty pickup. That’s because Super Duty® features a stronger, sturdier, fully boxed frame made of over 95 percent high-strength steel; heftier axle, suspension and driveline components; plus a factory-installed weight-carrying hitch built into the frame.
5TH-WHEEL AND BEST-IN-CLASS GOOSENECK TOWING
Need to tow the really big loads? Hitch up with the Ford Super Duty® and either its maximum 27,500-lb. 5th-wheel or best-in-class 34,000-lb. gooseneck tow rating. The 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package can set you up for this exceptional capability: Among the features is a 5th-wheel and gooseneck substructure attached to the frame (factory-installed on 4x4 model only). Compatible with 5th-wheel hitch kits and gooseneck hitch kits offered through the factory and Ford Custom Accessories.
The Ford Super Duty® boasts best-in-class* maximum payload plus conventional and gooseneck trailer towing. But that’s not all. Load up your pickup box to the max while pulling a large trailer — and haul it all better than any other heavy-duty pickup on the road with the best-in-class* Super Duty® 42,800-lb. gross combination weight rating (GCWR).
TRAILER REVERSE GUIDANCE
The available class-exclusive Trailer Reverse Guidance enhances visibility via cameras in the sideview mirrors and visual guides in the center dash screen. You get a clear rear view of where the trailer is going, with the guidelines changing with the movements of the steering wheel. The camera view is digitally expanded to show the direction of the truck and the trailer. Now, one difficult task on the job isn’t so difficult anymore.
Reducing body weight by up to 350 lbs. and making the frame 24 times stiffer — together, these increase the payload in today’s generation of the Super Duty®. The 7,630-lb. maximum rating is the best in its class. New features transform the pickup bed: class-exclusive* available BoxLink™™ to secure accessories, available center high-mount stop lamp camera, available LED box lights, class-exclusive remote tailgate release/power-locking tailgate and class-exclusive tailgate step.
LARGER FUEL TANKS
Super Duty® has larger fuel tanks than the previous generation. Now factor in the efficiency of both the 6.2L gas V8 and the Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8. Not having to stop to fill up as often means more productivity on the job.
ALL THE PULLING MUSCLE YOU CAN HANDLE.
Torque rules in the hardworking world of heavy-duty pickups, especially when hauling and towing huge loads. And here, not surprisingly, the Ford Super Duty® rules. The 6.2L gas V8, with its best-in-class torque, delivers more heavy work-capable muscle. Need the severe-duty stamina of a durable, powerful diesel? Ready to join your workforce is the available Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8, the class leader in horsepower and torque.
6.7L Power Stroke® TURBO DIESEL
The available B20-capable 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 delivers best-in-class 450 horsepower and 935 lb.-ft. of torque. The Power Stroke® features a unique inverse-flow configuration: the exhaust manifolds and turbocharger are mounted between the cylinder heads above the engine block. This inboard configuration allows a large single turbocharger to be mounted closer to the exhaust manifolds for faster air displacement and more power. Another notable feature is the compacted graphite iron engine block that is stronger yet lighter than cast iron.
DIESEL ENGINE-EXHAUST BRAKING
The 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel incorporates a smart exhaust brake function. When activated with a button on the instrument panel, the engine brake restricts the turbocharger’s exhaust flow to generate back pressure and slow the vehicle. The main benefit is greater control while traveling downhill, regardless of vehicle load or road grade. Also, because the engine brake helps minimize having to apply pedal pressure, brake fade and lining wear are reduced, lowering the cost of maintenance. Three settings are available: On, Off, and Auto. The Auto setting modulates engine braking as needed to help maintain the speed you want based on accelerator and brake pedal use.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH COLLISION WARNING
Available Adaptive Cruise Control slows you down as traffic ahead slows, then resumes the preset speed when traffic picks back up. The Collision Warning/Brake Support feature precharges the brakes for full responsiveness. if you don’t react in time. It’s integrated into the trailer brake controller for added security when you’re towing a heavy load.
6.2L FFV GAS V8
No other gas-powered heavy-duty full-size pickup matches the 430 lb.-ft. of torque of the Super Duty® 6.2L flex-fuel V8. Engineered to deliver peak torque at lower rpm, the 6.2L generates high torque throughout the midrange and runs efficiently at lower speeds. Shifting is noticeably seamless with Ford TorqShift G 6-speed (F-250). Plus, optional Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode is available with the 6.2L in the F-350.
FORD TORQSHIFT G SelectShift® 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC
The 6.2L gas V8 with best-in-class torque features the Ford TorqShift G SelectShift® 6-speed automatic in the F-250. Experience responsive power delivery and seamlessly smooth shifting. SelectShift® includes Progressive Range Select (for overdrive lockout) plus Full Manual. Tow/Haul minimizes gear hunting uphill; downhill, it prevents upshifting and gaining speed, reducing brake pressure.
LIVE-DRIVE POWER TAKEOFF PROVISION WITH MOBILE MODE
Whether your Super Duty® runs on diesel or gas power, you have available the optional class-exclusive Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode. An output gear connected to the crankshaft powers a PTO when the engine is running, whether in motion or stopped. “Split-shaft” capability (diesel) generates greater power with a more direct output shaft to the transmission. Multiple accessories can be operated at the same time when the truck is stopped.
EVEN THE HARDEST JOBS MADE A LOT EASIER.
Today’s generation of the Super Duty® is not only the toughest and strongest Ford heavy-duty pickup ever. It’s also the smartest Super Duty® with its available technologies including BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow, Trailer Reverse Guidance, and SYNC® 3. These are optional features you can get on any Super Duty® from the base XL to the new top-of-the-line Limited model.
UP TO SEVEN AVAILABLE CAMERAS
Optional cameras enhance visibility for on-site tasks. Tailgate camera. High-definition 180/360-degree cameras displaying all sides of the truck. Class-exclusive Trailer Reverse Guidance with visual guides along both sides for an enhanced view of where the trailer is going. Customer-placed rear trailer camera. And center high-mount stop lamp camera for viewing the pickup bed, helpful when hooking up to a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitch.
REAR SEAT STORAGE AND FLAT LOAD FLOOR
You’ll appreciate the convenience of Super Duty® interior design when you need to carry cargo and other items inside the cab. Both the SuperCab and Crew Cab models have a class-exclusive* rear flat load floor that helps make it easy to load large cargo. The SuperCab features rear hinged doors that open 170 degrees for easy loading. And the four-door Crew Cab offers an available class-exclusive folding lockable under-seat box (shown) for storing loose items or things you’d want to keep concealed and secure.
SIX UPFITTER SWITCHES IN OVERHEAD CONSOLE
Upfitter switches are a convenient way to connect a variety of aftermarket accessories (such as a winch, lights, strobes, two-way radio) to the vehicle’s electrical system. They’re factory-installed, so there’s no need to cut into the truck’s electrical system when installing accessories. Six available factory-installed auxiliary upfitter switches include two 40-amp switches (ignition on or off) plus four 25-amp switches (ignition on). What’s more, the switches with fuses and associated relays are integrated into an overhead console/storage compartment.
BLIS® WITH CROSS-TRAFFIC ALERT AND TRAILER TOW
Only in a Ford Super Duty® will you find the available BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow. BLIS® signals you in the outside mirror when a vehicle is detected in a blind spot — and provides coverage for the truck you’re driving as well as the trailer you’re towing. The Cross-Traffic Alert feature (for the truck only) can detect a vehicle passing behind when you’re slowly backing out of a driveway or parking place.
BoxLink™™ AND LED BOX LIGHTS
Ford Super Duty® provides the tools you need to finish any job, day or night. With the available class-exclusive BoxLink™™ system, the structurally reinforced box sides allow you to attach and tie down various kinds of cargo. The four interface plates can be configured to accommodate many available Ford and aftermarket accessories from aftermarket storage bins to stowable loading ramps. What’s more, with the available LED box lights, working out of the pickup box after the sun has set is not a problem.
POWER TAILGATE RELEASE AND REMOTE-LOCKING TAILGATE
Remote tailgate release with power remote-locking opens the tailgate with the key fob. Lock, unlock and lower it, hands-free. When activated, the tailgate gradually lowers to a flat position.
